About West Side Seido Karate

Seido Karate Program has been a part of the YMCA for over 25 years. Since then, the program has come a long way to reach new heights. Today Seido karate is taught in the spacious West Studio on the 4th floor with a variety of classes from white belt kicking combinations and stretching to advanced kumite and fighting strategy. We offer special conditioning, weight training, and meditation to students of all levels.

West Side Seido Karate consists of a diverse group of people from all different backgrounds and walks of life. We begin studying karate for all different reasons and different beliefs of what karate is all about. We want to learn how to defend ourselves, or gain discipline and flexibility of the mind and body. Sometimes we just happened to be walking by and thought it looked like a fun thing to try. The reason we all keep training is because we love the support we’re getting, and the inspiration we’re giving to others. We are able to challenge ourselves and to be better at what we do.

West Side Seido Karate-Do isn’t just all about punches and kicks. It’s about challenging yourself mentally, feeding your bushido (non-quitting) spirit, and extending yourself to help others do the same. We don’t just “study karate.” We practice karate-do, a way of life that will develop and nourish us both inside and outside of the dojo.
